The Aravis Massif is situated in the Haute Savoie region, west of the Alps, nestled between Lake Annecy and Mont Blanc. It is a region that has preserved its authentic traditions, has not been overly commercialized and not been spoilt by the mass development of the 1960’s/1970’s as seen in other French ski resorts.
Indeed, the region has harmoniously balanced agricultural needs whilst appealing to the winter and summer holiday maker. Many of the towns and villages in the area retain a charming French feel and most chalets are still built in the typical Savoyard style.
The region enjoys an excellent reputation as a winter and summer destination: for the skier/snowboarder there are 220kms of ski runs for all abilities, with the highest skiable area at 2600m. The pistes are situated around the main ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand where snow fall records have been consistently good and above average.
For the summer visitor, the Aravis offers some 400kms of hiking trails in lush Alpine meadows and up into the mountains, cycling, mountain biking and paragliding to name but a few. Additionally, Lake Annecy with its clean spring waters is just a short 20 minute drive away.
Conveniently situated 2kms away from the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, St Jean de Sixt is a picturesque and peaceful Alpine village.
In the winter, despite its altitude of 1000m, it regularly enjoys heavy snowfall. It is an excellent base for skiing, with a ski bus running regularly from the village to the slopes, with numerous marked snowshoeing and cross country trails around the village itself.
All local amenities are available within the village including supermarkets, restaurants, bar, pharmacy and doctor’s surgery, as well as ski hire and sports facilities.
