Conveniently situated 2kms away from the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, St Jean de Sixt is a picturesque and peaceful Alpine village. In the winter, despite its altitude of 1000m, it regularly enjoys heavy snowfall. It is an excellent base for skiing, with a ski bus running regularly from the village to the slopes, with numerous marked snowshoeing and cross country trails around the village itself. All local amenities are available within the village including supermarkets, restaurants, bar, pharmacy and doctor’s surgery, as well as ski hire and sports facilities.
Chalet Desgranges is located in the Forgeassoud Dessous area of St Jean de Sixt, just below the main roundabout, off the road down to Thones and Annecy.
Please ensure you have passports accessible for possible inspection at the Swiss/French border and change in euros for the tolls.
Leave the airport car park by turning left on to Route de l'Aéroport. Drive through a series of traffic lights. Look for the sign to France and turn left at this sign and then turn immediately right on to the Motorway (A1 / E25) (road sweeps round) in the direction of France.
Continue on this motorway until you reach the border. Cross the border into France. The motorway name will now change to A40 / E25. Follow signs for Chamonix - Mont Blanc. After about 20km you will come to the first toll (peage) booth (EUR 1.70). After the toll, continue toward Chamonix - Mont Blanc. Look for and turn off at exit 16 signposted BONNEVILLE / LA CLUSAZ / LE GRAND BORNAND. There is a toll at the exit (EUR 1.00).
After the toll turn right towards ST PIERRE EN FAUCIGNY, LA CLUSAZ/LE GRAND BORNAND. At the T-junction, turn right. Continue straight on road for approx ½ km and look for signs to LA CLUSAZ/LE GRAND BORNAND. It will be a sharp turn to the left, so keep your eyes peeled for the sign. Turn left at this sign and head into the village of ST PIERRE-EN-FAUCIGNY. Continue to follow signs for LA CLUSAZ / LE GRAND BORNAND through the village and up onto the winding mountain road. This road will take you through LE PETIT-BORNAND and ENTREMONT. After ENTREMONT look for signs to ST JEAN DE SIXT and follow these to the t-junction. Turn right at this junction into ST JEAN DE SIXT.
As you drive into ST JEAN DE SIXT, you will approach a roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout in the direction of THONES. Pass the OXYGENE ski shop on your left and then past a filling station (Elan). Take the next turning left signed "DECHETTERIE" this will take you into the suburb of Forgeassoud dessous. Follow the road down around a hairpin bend. Chalet DESGRANGES is the newly built chalet, 3rd chalet on the left.
